eOPN3, a mosquito-derived rhodopsin, can effectively suppress synaptic transmission through the Gi/o signaling pathway to selectively inhibit the release of neurotransmitters at presynaptic terminal. It has high temporal and spatial accuracy and opens up a new way for the study of long range neuronal circuits in vivo.
